Garth Clair Condie, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Kingston, Missouri, on May 2, 2026. He must have had the most joyous reunion with his wife, Ilene, whom he has been without for 37 years.

Garth was born September 8, 1945, in Preston, Idaho, the third of five sons born to Clyde Johnson and Bernice Winger Condie. He graduated from Grace High School in 1963 where he enjoyed playing sports. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Garth dedicated his life to the service of others and the gospel. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Austrian Mission. Upon returning home, he served in the Marine Corps Reserves for two years and went on to graduate from Brigham Young University with a degree in accounting.

Garth married Lynn Collins and was blessed with two children, Brandon and Rachel.

In 1981, Garth married the love of his life, Ilene Beck, in the Ogden Utah Temple. This union brought together their families, as Garth became a loving father to Shane and Brian, as well.

He and Ilene enjoyed attending sporting events for the boys and rarely missed. Following Ilene’s passing from cancer in 1989, Garth continued on as a devoted single father, anchoring his family with strength and faith. He was immensely proud of his children’s service, famously wearing three missionary tags on his suit every Sunday while three of his children served simultaneously.

He also enjoyed serving the community where he was the mayor of Hannah, Wyoming, and later served on the City Council in Rangely, Colorado. He spent the majority of his career working as Human Resource Director for the Deserado Coal Mine in Rangely, Colorado.

Garth was an active and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His influence was felt deeply through his service in Young Men, elders quorum, as a counselor in the bishopric, as a bishop, and in the stake presidency. He was known for his genuine love for his ward members. A cherished memory was the tradition he and Ilene began—and he continued—of baking and hand-delivering homemade cinnamon rolls to every member of the ward each Christmas. After retirement, he delighted in serving as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple.

In his free time, he loved to explore and hike and enjoyed finding arrowheads and other treasures. Garth was a very spiritual man who spent his life strengthening his testimony of the gospel and shared his love of the Savior with everyone he met through his quiet service and Christlike example.

He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Ilene; his parents, Clyde and Bernice; and his brother, Ronald. He is survived by his four children, Shane (Heidi) McCuistion, Brandon Condie, Brian (Tami) McCuistion, and Rachel (Paul) Helton; 12 grandchildren; his brothers, Allen (Carol) Condie, Brent (Kym) Condie, and Kent (Susan) Condie; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May16, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, Idaho, where family and friends will be received from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

From Ed Smith.:
Garth is my friend. We met as missionaries at the LTM in 1964. He went to Austria and I to South
Germany. Met again at BYU registration and were roommates ‘69-70 until graduation. Phone calls kept our friendship alive. It will be amazing to see him again. Judging from the comments, Garth, through thick and thin, was and is a true friend to all. It is an honor to be on his friend list. Love him.

I had the privilege of getting to know Garth when I was the scout master in the 17th ward here in Tooele UT. At the time he was the YM president. He was amazing with the young men. A few years ago, my family took a vacation to MO to visit historical church sites. He met us at Adam and Amen and showed us around. What a wonderdul time we had together. I believe he will have such a great reunion in the Spirit World! Love ya brother!

From Deb :
Oh how I love Garth. I first met him when we were fairly new in the ward and he came up and introduced himself. It felt like he wanted me to know his name. He seemed to continue doing it until I remembered his name. Once I could remember his name without being told it stopped. Sitting beside him at church was appears a blessing as he could sing well. My time with him will always be a treasured memory. I look forward to when we meet again. So until we meet again. Thanks for sharing him is. B
